Earth Hour 2010

Earth Hour 2010 is set to kick off at 8:30pm on Saturday 27th March 2010. HVC is a registered supporter of Earth Hour, and we'd like to encouragee all our volunteers and member organisations to participate in, sign up, and become part of what is now a global phenomenon. And all you need to do is simply turn off your lights for 1 hour.

For those that are unfamiliar, Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people from 400 cities around the world switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

In 2009, Earth Hour was taken to a new level, with more than 4000 cities across the globe using their light switch to 'Vote Earth'.

In 2010 Earth Hour is evolving to call for Earth Hour, Every Hour; encouraging the community to make changes in their daily lives and reduce their environmental footprint. Earth Hour is a positive message of hope and action, emphasising what people can do when they can act together. We hope that you will be joining companies around the world for “Lights Out” for Earth Hour 2010.
